🤩 Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka – we see you! Photographed by Randy Bresnik of @NASAAstronauts from the @ISS, this image shows nighttime lights over Japan on Nov. 6, 2017. The lights are concentrated around three of the country’s major cities: Tokyo (top cluster), Nagoya (middle), and Osaka (bottom). From their orbiting home, astronauts have a view unlike anything most of us will ever see! In the past 20 years, they have shot millions of photographs, and it is not just a hobby. It is an important scientific job, and one they need to be trained to do. For example, researchers have used nighttime imagery of lights to better understand human activity. The images can reveal population changes, urban development, energy use, economic activities, and changes in types of lighting. Credit: NASA #NASA #EarthViews #EarthPics #JapanPhotography #Glowing
